16 golfers tucked into a hearty breakfast wondering what had happened to the sun that Carl had promised... Following an in-depth safety briefing from Sene Valley's lightening expert, the usual amusing 4-ball draw, & a debate about who was going to share a buggy with Bob, the 16 golfers got a quick bit of putting & chipping practice before getting to the 1st tee. Before too long the clouds had disappeared & the sun was beaming down... but not before Terry had swapped his shorts for some trousers... :-)
Bob was back to his old tricks, winning Nearest the Pin on the 2nd (whilst getting a share in the 2s money) & ending up in 2nd place with 34pts. Terry Porter's trousers helped him to Nearest the Pin on the 6th. Lee Bulford got in on the act on the 11th, whist Alan Garrett won on the amazing 16th hole with a shot that apparently came off a tree, took a big bounce, ran up the bank behind the hole & back down to within 3 ft of the hole, which he tapped in to share the 2s money with Bob.
Only 5 of the 16 golfers scored 30pts or more. Rhod was gutted to come 4th on countback behind Alan who won another sleeve of balls for 3rd place with 32pts. Bob 2nd with 34pts, but the top golfer today was Ed Oliver who was celebrating his maiden win with BGS, with a whopping 39pts. During his round, Ed was often heard commenting about how friendly the society is, especially with this year's new Handicap system... however, a quick 2 shot cut for winning may kerb those comments next time...
Whilst a few had to leave sharpish to make sure they got home for a nap during the England footy match, it was great to see the generosity of our society... With Bouncy Castle Dave sharing about how many balls he lost during his 'Most-Golf-Played' round, there was suddenly a whip around for replacement golf balls for Dave... he ended up with 3 sleeves of the 'prize' balls including a sleeve from Alan generously donated by Ady...
Next month (Wed 17th July) is a return to the splendid Hever Castle, 9 years after our last visit... It's a special trip & will be a great price for our members, so book the date in your diary & look out for when booking opens...
