Kings Hill has become a firm favourite over the past few years with the Broadstairs Golf Society... even with today's grey skies it is a beautiful place. The staff always look after us well, the breakfast is first class and it all sets up for a really enjoyable day... (as long as we remember not to let the golf affect our enjoyment... ). Let's hope Jim heard that advice as he received the 'most golf' accolade (a.k.a. lowest score)... although he only pipped Bob & Errol (welcome back) by a point! & his good mate Gary by 2pts... Don't worry guys: form is temporary but class is permanent!!
On the other end of the leaderboard there was a 4 way tie at the top, all with 34pts. Fortunately Rhod had his calculator & a few wise-heads around him to work out the winners & losers on countback... 4th place, & no prizes, went to Carl, on a rich vein of form which has seen his handicap drop to single figures! 3rd place went to 'Bouncy Castle (& Window Spraying)' Dave, how he rued only getting 1 point on the last three holes. This left 2nd place to Ant Gardiner, who could be making a late bid for the Golfer of the Year award. Which meant that we had a very popular winner... in fact all the locals were woken up in this sleepy suburb as the Society rose as one to chant out the name "Gerry". He also put the icing on the cake by winning the nearest the pin prize on the 17th which went nicely alongside Gerry's first victory since August 2021 at the Weald of Kent.
The other nearest the pin winners were Lee (6th), Bouncy Dave (8th) & Ken (11th). This puts Ken alongside Alan, Bob, Carl & Mick Beale with 3 NPs, Bouncy Dave & Lee alongside 6 others with 2 NPs. With just 12 NPs left to play this year...
As for the Golfer of the Year standings... with current No1 Alan away, there was opportunity for Pete, or Ady to stake their claim... however, 3rd placed Ady's 31 only improved his best 6 by 1pt (202pts), and saw him drop to 5th place, as Carl's 34pts enables him to leapfrog Ady whilst remaining in 4th place (203pts). Pete's 31pts puts him one ahead of Alan's 206pts, but suddenly, out of no where & leaping like a gazelle is Ant who completed his 6th 'impressive' round of the season putting him in a share of pole position with Pete on 207pts. With two games left to play it's all poised beautifully... Who's going to win the BGSGOY'25?
Our next installment is at Sheerness on Wed 19th Nov: 9.30am B’fast... & I'm determined not to smash any car windows this year...
