Report
Two weeks after our last outing & finally we get a report. Yes, it's taken that long for Rhod to get used to being 50 although his 4 ball at Sittingbourne did their best to encourage him that it's all down hill from here ????
It was a glorious day & quite a few dusted the shorts off for the first time this year. Most of the details of the day have become foggy (apparently that happens now I'm 50 ????????)...
1st prize of the day was the nearest the pin on the 4th. John Knight, in the day's final group, won this but followed it by putting his drive on the 5th, over the heads of the 3rd group, who were on the 7th tee, straight into the pond on the 6th hole... I'm not sure which was the most impressive feat.
The other nearest-the-pins were won by Big-Ball-Bulford on the 7th, Andy Miller on the 11th & Port Vale fanatic (or lunatic?) Carl Bolton on the 15th.
Dave Wain achieved his first ever eagle on the Par5 18th, he also got in on the 2s money but had to share this with the Birthday Boy who got a great birdie on the 11th.
Most golf (aka Today's worst golfer) was decided on countback which upset Ant Gardiner. After a round where nothing went right for him, he couldn't even 'win' this... meaning that Daniel Maclorg gets his first "award" with BGS - not so well played Daniel, but I'm sure you'll be much better next time.
& so to the placings: in 3rd place was the ever consistent (& current BGS Player of the Year) Alan Garrett with 34pts. The top two went to count back with Sean Rutt just missing out despite a fine 36pts. This left Jon 'The Beard' Martin with a fine victory & means that the Stonelees clan have won all 3 meets so far in 2026.
Let's see if the rest of us can do better at Canterbury on April 14th.
This month's wining team were Group 4: Sean Rutt, Carl Bolton, Steve Faulkner & Jon Martin (not surprising when the Top 2 were in that team ????). They'll enjoy £6 each ????
A big thanks to my Birthday Twin & BGS favourite Rob for bringing cakes for us all to enjoy (once the early leavers had gone ????????).
