Report

Mid-Kent Golf Course what a hidden gem... this is our 2nd year in a row & judging on the comments it'll be a regular in future seasons. Even though 50% of the field scored under 30pts, & we had a little sprinkling of rain half-way around, it didn't dampen the enjoyment and camaraderie of our motley crew.

In the swanky new interior of the clubhouse we enjoyed a great breakfast, met a couple of newbies (Sam & Pat) who were joining us for the 1st time. In fact we were so chilled that it was a complete surprise when it was pointed out that there was only 20 mins until the 1st tee & the draw hadn't even be made. Where was Monsieur Carl when you needed him?  A quick shuffle & some deft slight of hand brought about the friendliest draw since last month & suddenly we were off...

The 1st Group was led out by Ben Wildman, our resident international Sport's Missionary, Gillingham Youth Coach & all round good guy... he put the opening tee shot to within 10 feet of the pin, which none of the following 19 golfers could beat, & walked away with the 1st of today's 6 nearest the pins.  The other NP winners were: Alan (4th), Joe (7th), Chopper (9th), Smoggie (13th) & Simon (16th).

Surprisingly, only half of the field scored 30 pts or more... Lee & Rhod, the only golfers still being cut for previous victories, were the nearly men with 33pts.  Even Smoggie with 35pts didn't get into the top 3, although his score was impressive as he's still reeling from some bizarre muscle injuries inflicted whilst trying out wake boarding at Whitemills.

In 3rd place was the returning John Knight with 37pts; 2nd place with 38pts was Tony Clark who's still searching for his 1st BGS win after 4yrs of trying; however, keeping up his record of gaining at least one victory a season was Alan Garrett with an impressive 41pts: this included an eagle on the Par 5, 5th hole, & the only '2' of the day... which was the 1st BGS '2' for 3 rounds which raked in £58 for Al.  No surprise then that Al's team won the team comp bringing in a fiver for Ady, Jon, Lee & yes, of course, Al.  Well played Al... but a big thanks to Ricky for reminding us that he'll be cut two shots for his next game...

Next month we're at Kingshill on Wednesday 21st October... sign-up will start in a couple of weeks...
