Today was special. Today was all about one man, the man who goes by the name of Andy Miller. It wasn't because this was his first appearance for four months, nor because this was his 101st appearance with BGS. Today was the day Andy would get a Hole-in-one! Stepping up to the 11th Tee, admiring the view from this lofty perch 173 yards above the hole, and facing a Storm Force 3 head-wind - there was only ever one club Andy was going to choose, his trusty driver... A little shuffle to get in position, and what followed is the stuff of legend... By all reports Andy's little white ball ignored gravity & cut through the wind like a knife through butter... landing softly just four foot to the left of the flag... & then, ever so gently, it trickled down the slope until it disappeared into the cup. It's a Hole in One!! & the calmest man of them all is Andy Miller - no whooping, no running around like a crazed lunatic, it's all in a day's work for Andy.
Well Done Andy! We're all chuffed for you... & it's a shame that we don't engage in indiscriminate cutting of handicaps, otherwise we'd be cutting yours... (NB: Get ready for news in the next couple of months of a tweak to the BGS Handicap system for Society Days!!)
The only surprise today was that Andy only took home the 'Nearest the Pin' prize for the 11th hole (and a double stake in the 2's competition... I know it's not a 2 (it's better), & we're a generous bunch...). The other 'Nearest the Pin' winners were: Jon Hunnisett (7th), Laurence Tuck (13th) & Ant Gardiner (16th). Ant & Laurence also had a share in the 2's comp. Most Golf went to Alan Garrett, it was Alan's 1st time with the BGS - what a welcome!
3rd Place went to the ever consistent Carl Bolton with 36pts, beaten to 2nd place, on countback, by Rick Woolley. In 1st place, and winning for the 2nd time in 3 months, was Jon Hunnisett with 38pts. Well Played Jon & we look forward to cutting you a shot next time.
Next Month we're at Walmer & Kingsdown on Wed 18th October with a Brunch at 11am. See you there.
