February found the Broadstairs Golf Society at their home patch of North Foreland. The club acknowledged this prestigious event by putting a reception desk in the clubhouse foyer but apparently the big band and dancing troupe were held up in the St Peter's roadworks... however, the big North Foreland welcome was appreciated by our cultured clientele.
Following a great Breakfast and the usual random group generator facilitated by the 50p pack of cards, we were off with six 3balls... Anthony, last month's winner, led the way with another booming drive as N.Foreland members Rich & Huckers gave him a guard of honour - what a team! In fact, these three won the team competition that never was with a four shot winning score of 94... The last group were almost a 2-ball until Pat came flying to the 1st Tee just in-time. This 3-ball, also known as 'The Last of the Summer Wine Golf Society', didn't manage to keep up Pat's early pace, & eventually came in a long 20mins after Group 5. There was talk of fining them but having seen Lodgy's frustrated demeanor, as he arrived back in the clubhouse, we thought better of it & decided to just issue Bob with a warning over his future slothful conduct.
We've got another roll-over with the 2's competition, as no-one had a birdie on the Par 3s. Nearest the Pin winners were: Anthony on the 5th, Huckers on the 7th, Pat on the 11th & Gerry on the 18th. Most Golf Played went to Ken - that's an unwanted hat-trick for Ken... Is that a 1st for the Society?
New Member John Knight managed to come home in 3rd place with a respectable 34pts & he survived a round with Most-Golf Ken & the society's self-professed best dressed golfer Gary Fairhall... although, after just a couple of holes John realised that Gary is the self-professed best at everything... ;-)
Having been encouraged by Gary not to win today, Rhodri obliged by coming in 2nd on 35pts. Coming in 1st with 36pts, & always a popular winner, was Gary Fairhall... Gary, you were the best today - well played!
Next month we're at West Malling on Wednesday 22nd March with Breakfast at 9am.
