January at Stonelees, it's become a regular 'fixture' on the BGS fixture list and it's for good reasons. A warm welcome - very important on a cold January morning. A great Breakfast - crucial for us to start the day in the right way. A playable golf course - pretty impressive after all the rain we've had...
After a few late calls from our N.Foreland crew... Rich Epps & Ken Tinklin in & Jim Cornish out, the 16 of us sat down to a great b'fast delivered by Ant & his crew, although this didn't stop us from reminding Ant that he was cut a shot today as it was the 1st time he'd played since winning in October.
With four home members with us, Ady, Alan, Andy & Ant, we soon realised that you need a name beginning with A to be a member here... but the Welcome was also A class... in fact, we were invited to visit the Stonelees Golf Simulator (available to hire £30/hour for a group) for a nearest the pin comp on the 2nd hole at Le Golf National... Whilst Rich found the water with each of his 3 attempts, it was home boy Ant who got within 12ft of the pin & took the money...
Andy Miller had shuffled the cards & it made for quite an eclectic mix of groups... the sun was shining, & it was time to play... although Rhod waited until the 5th hole before he began to play, although Ricky went one better/worse & waited until the 6th hole before he began picking up points... although both recovered well enough to avoid the 'most-golf' "award". This went to Ken 'Dancing Feet' Tinklin, who blamed the new driver that he'd had for Christmas.
Following Ant's win in the simulator, he started his round well-enough & chipped in, on the Par 3, 4th hole to win the 2's money... although he's said since, that all the money he won today will go towards paying the physio to fix his back which he tweaked on the back 9 & was using as an excuse for finishing in the bottom 3...
Today's Nearest the Pins were won by Andy Miller (4th), Rich Epps (8th), Peter K (13th) & Bob (17th). 3rd Place was Paul Flint & 2nd Place was Bob McDougall both on 31pts... but the best player today, by a country mile, was Rich Epps with 36pts. Well Played Rich - we look forward to you becoming the 1st one to experience the new BGS Handicap system... who knows what you'll be playing off next time, although it is at your home club, North Foreland, on Wednesday 21st February (Get the date in the diary...)
All the fixtures are available on the website, get them in the diary, & see you next month. No photos this month... but there is a Stonelees' Tik Tok Video...
